Every Power-up in Road Racer Explained

Road Racer has 5 power-ups that can completely change how your run goes. Knowing what each one does — and when to chase it — is the difference between a 5,000 score and a 50,000 score. Here's everything you need to know.

Gold Coin
+1 Coin per collect
The most common item on the road. Coins appear constantly and don't give score directly — but they're tracked on the leaderboard alongside your score. Always pick them up when they're in your path, but never swerve dangerously for a single coin.

Bonus Coin
+1,000 Score instantly
The red bonus coin is rare and powerful. One grab is worth roughly 33 seconds of normal play. It appears every 22–40 seconds and is absolutely worth going out of your way to collect. If it's in the adjacent lane and the path is clear — go for it.
Pro Tip

The Bonus Coin spawns on a timer — once you collect one, start mentally counting. The next one appears in about 30 seconds on average.

Blue Star
Traffic slows for 10 seconds
When you collect the Blue Star, all enemy cars slow down significantly for 10 full seconds. This is most valuable in Wave 3 and above when traffic gets dense. Use those 10 seconds to collect as many coins as possible and reposition yourself to the center lane.

Pink Key
Revive after crash — max 3 per run
The most strategic power-up in the game. When you crash with a key in your possession, a 6-second prompt appears — tap Continue to revive with your score fully intact and a 5-second invincibility shield. You can hold up to 3 keys per run.
Pro Tip

Never use a key when you're below 8,000 score. Save them for when you've hit Wave 3 or above — that's when surviving one more crash is genuinely worth it.

Rainbow Ball
+4,000 Score + particle explosion
The rarest and most rewarding power-up. Rainbow Balls only start appearing after you cross 40,000 score, and they spawn every 2,000–3,000 points after that. Each one is worth +4,000 score — a massive jump at that level. Chase them aggressively. The risk is worth it.

Power-up Priority Order

When multiple power-ups appear at once, prioritize in this order:

1. Rainbow Ball (if you're 40k+) → 2. Bonus Coin → 3. Blue Star → 4. Pink Key → 5. Gold Coins

Never risk a crash chasing a gold coin. Never ignore a Rainbow Ball when you're in the top 10 leaderboard range.
